About
Vocal Reduction
Have you ever wanted to remove the vocal off a CD recording so you could sing with it? Now you can! Vocal Reduction, sometimes called Voice "Elimination" or Vocal "Removers" can lower the volume of the lead vocal.
How does it work? Most recordings are mixed with a stereo field for all instruments. The supporting instruments and rythm tracks are panned left or right and the human voice is typically panned center. In other words, the singer is at "12 o'clock" in the stereo field. A complicated process of signal inversion and reverb wash in the pinpointed vocal frequencies will lower the vocal and leave the bulk of the music tracks unaffected.
Usually all background vocals will remain intact and only the lead vocal will be lowered. The bass frequencies may be slightly affected, but not too noticeable for most applications.
End Result: Your own custom background track!
NOTE: Because of the individual nature of every sound recording, we cannot guarantee or guess at the percentage at which the vocal will be removed. In our experience, the process is not suitable in approximately one out of five recordings.
